PETLIBRO's first Dockstream fountains made buyers pick between an app and a battery. The Dockstream 2 Smart Cordless (model PL-WF116) is the first to do both, weighing one pet's drinking on a scale in its base and sending the log over Wi-Fi while it runs unplugged. It replaces the app-free Dockstream Cordless and competes with PETKIT's EverSweet Max (Cordless), whose app links over Bluetooth.
The catch sits in PETLIBRO's help pages: on battery the water flows only when a pet comes close. Nobody here has set one up, and no independent test is cited, so this review rests on PETLIBRO's documentation.

Editorial ratingFairWeighted average of 4 rated sections.
For one cat whose drinking you want logged, in a spot with no outlet, it is the most complete cordless option PETLIBRO makes. Make sure your cat will drink from water that starts only on approach, because unplugged that is the only way it runs.
Strengths
Weighs what one pet drinks and warns after a full day without drinking
Wi-Fi on 2.4 or 5 GHz, so the log reaches your phone away from home
Stainless steel water tray over a tank that lifts off for refills
Weaknesses
On battery, water flows only when a pet comes near
Tracks a single pet, and two fountains pool their data only with a paid plan
3 L detachable tank, stainless steel tray (dishwasher: the help center says yes below 194 °F, the manual says no)
Flow modes
On battery: sensor-triggered only (near or far range, 45 to 90 s per trigger). Plugged in: sensor or continuous
Battery
5,200 mAh, rated up to 30 days with one pet in sensor mode. Charging 7 to 8 hours idle, about 10 hours while running (PETLIBRO)
Power
5 V 1 A adapter, 1.5 m USB-C cable
Tracking
Scale-based intake, sessions and drinking time for one pet. Alerts for low water, empty tank, filter, cleaning, and no drinking in 24 hours after the first week
Connectivity
Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, PETLIBRO app (iOS 13 or later, Android 7 or later)
Filter
Four-layer, replace every two weeks for one pet (shared with the original Dockstream)

Method
The flow-mode section is built on PETLIBRO's help pages for the cordless model, which spell out what works on battery. Tracking details and alerts come from PETLIBRO's pre-sale answers and product FAQ, and the calibration steps from its help page. The cleaning section compares PETLIBRO's pump wording across its landing page, product page and generation comparison, and its dishwasher advice across the help center and the PL-WF116 manual. The comparison with the original Dockstream uses PETLIBRO's own model table, and the PETKIT figures are PETKIT's as recorded on this site's product page.
Evidence
Battery life, charging time, noise and capacity are PETLIBRO's ratings, and the flow modes come from its help pages. No independent test of the fountain is cited.
Limitations
No lab has measured the scale's accuracy, the battery life or the noise, and no test with cats is cited, so how a given cat takes to sensor-only flow is something to watch for yourself.

PETLIBRO's help page on flow types is plain about it. Plugged in, the cordless model offers sensor-triggered flow and continuous flow, and on battery only the sensor mode works. You choose a near or far detection range and a run of 45, 60, 75 or 90 seconds per trigger. The rated 30 days per charge assumes one pet in that sensor mode, according to the product page, and a full charge takes 7 to 8 hours with the fountain idle, or about 10 hours if it keeps running while it charges.
Some cats will not drink from water that starts on approach. The studies behind our piece on whether fountains raise water intake found individual cats preferring still, circulating or falling water with no pattern anyone could predict, so a cat that drinks happily from a still bowl may not mind at all.
The battery earns its keep where there is no socket, in a bedroom corner or a hallway. A cat that wants a steady stream needs the cable, a 1.5 m USB-C cord PETLIBRO describes as bite-resistant. Cordless mode is switched on with a button under the base.
A scale that logs one pet's drinking
7.0/10Good

Intake comes from scale sensors in the base, and the app turns them into daily, weekly, monthly and yearly charts of amount, number of sessions and average drinking time, according to PETLIBRO's pre-sale answers. Alerts cover low water, an empty tank (the flow stops to protect the fountain), filter changes and cleaning. After seven days of use it also warns if no water has been drunk in 24 hours. The scale must be calibrated in the app first, with the tank lifted off and the shipping foam removed, and PETLIBRO says the fountain works properly only after that.
PETLIBRO says the fountain tracks one pet and points multi-pet homes to its Dockstream RFID model, and data from two fountains is combined only with a paid Petlibro Care subscription. For an older cat the chart has a real use: International Cat Care's guidelines, covered in our kidney disease setup piece, list drinking more among the most common early signs of the disease. A rising line is something to show the vet.
Nobody has published a test of the scale's accuracy. The fountain joins 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Cleaning, filters and the pump wording
6.5/10Fair
PETLIBRO's illustration of the four-layer filter used by the Dockstream 2, cropped to 16:9 with the headline and footnote removed. PETLIBRO product imagery (Dockstream 2 gallery)
PETLIBRO calls the design pump-free on its landing page, and its help page comparing the two generations says both Dockstream 2 models have an integrated pump. The product page squares the two: the tank holds no electrics, which PETLIBRO calls a pumpless tank, and it has a rotor you rinse. The rotor needs the included brush during a deep clean, which PETLIBRO suggests every two weeks.
The tank lifts off the base. PETLIBRO's help center calls the steel tray and the filter tray dishwasher-safe below 194 degrees Fahrenheit, for two hours at most, but the PLWF116 manual says not to clean any part of the fountain in a dishwasher. Washing the tray by hand in water below 122 degrees, the limit both documents set for the other parts, keeps you within both. The four-layer filter is rated for two weeks with one pet and less with more, which comes to 26 filters a year for a single cat, and the same filters fit the original Dockstream. PETLIBRO rates the noise at 23 dB, a figure nobody has measured independently.
PETLIBRO covers its products for 24 months against defects.

6.0/10Fair

The original Dockstream Cordless (PL-WF115) runs on battery the same way, flowing when a pet comes near, and costs less. It has no app and shows its state on indicator lights, and its tank holds 2.5 L, according to PETLIBRO's model table. If you never planned to read a drinking chart, it does the cordless job.
PETKIT's EverSweet Max (Cordless) also holds 3 L and lasts far longer on paper, 83 days by PETKIT's figure in a default mode that runs the water for 25 seconds an hour. Its app links over Bluetooth, so the data reaches your phone only within range unless another PETKIT device acts as a hub. The Dockstream 2 sends its log over Wi-Fi wherever you are.
The original Dockstream Cordless suits anyone who wants the battery and the approach sensor without the app. Its tank is smaller and it keeps no drinking record.
PETKIT's EverSweet Max (Cordless) runs far longer on a charge by PETKIT's rating and holds the same 3 L, at the cost of an app that needs your phone nearby or a PETKIT hub.

Pros
Weighs what one pet drinks and warns after a full day without drinking

Stainless steel water tray over a tank that lifts off for refills
Cons

A new filter every two weeks for one cat
Plastic tank
Calibration is required before use
Conclusion
PETLIBRO has put an intake scale, a no-drinking alert and dual-band Wi-Fi into a fountain that runs without a cord, and that combination is hard to find elsewhere. The cordless part comes with sensor-only flow, which some cats simply ignore. Run it plugged in for the first week, then unplug it and watch the log for another week. If the line drops, plug it back in.
Over a year the work is a filter swap and a deep clean every two weeks, and PETLIBRO's 24-month warranty covers the hardware.
Andreea-Viviana Jitaru’s take
PETKIT's cordless Max lasts longer between charges, but its Bluetooth link makes the drinking data a local curiosity, and the data is the whole point here. For a single older cat I would choose this one and leave it plugged in most of the time, using the battery only for the room without a socket.
Best for
One cat, especially an older one, whose drinking you want to watch
A room with no outlet near the spot your cat likes
Consider an alternative if
Your cat drinks only from water that is already running when it walks up, and the fountain has to live away from an outlet
Does the Dockstream 2 Smart Cordless run continuously on battery?
No. PETLIBRO's help page says that on battery only sensor-triggered flow works. Continuous flow needs the fountain plugged in.
Can it track two cats?
PETLIBRO says it tracks one pet at a time and recommends its Dockstream RFID Smart Fountain for monitoring several pets.
How long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?
PETLIBRO rates it at up to 30 days for one pet in sensor mode. A full charge takes 7 to 8 hours with the fountain idle, or about 10 hours if it keeps running.
Do the filters fit the original Dockstream?
PETLIBRO says the Dockstream 2 filters are interchangeable with the original Dockstream fountains. It recommends a new filter every two weeks for one pet.
Is the Dockstream 2 different from the Dockstream Cordless?
The Dockstream Cordless (PL-WF115) has no app and a 2.5 L tank. The Dockstream 2 Smart Cordless (PL-WF116) adds Wi-Fi, a scale for intake tracking and a 3 L tank.
Andreea edits the written side of the site: the editor's note on each product page, the category buying guides and the blog. Her brief is to say what a specification table cannot: where a product is good, where it quietly compromises, and who should walk past it. A note that reads like marketing copy, or that praises a product without naming a drawback, does not go live.
This is a research-based assessment: the reviewer compiled it from published specifications, documentation and independent measurements rather than from testing the unit.
