PetPace Collar Cost Over Three Years, Plan by Plan

PetPace Collar Cost Over Three Years, Plan by Plan

Three years of a PetPace collar cost $799 to $999 at PetPace’s own US prices, and the plan you start with decides where in that range you land. The collar itself sells for $299 on PetPace’s store, down from a $399 list price, and three years of service add $500 to $700. PetPace announced on October 6 that the health collar is now sold at Chewy, without giving a price for the collar or for the subscription its vet chat depends on. At the Chewy page, the plan you choose moves the total more than the collar’s discount does.

The three plans and what follows them

PetPace sells the service in one-, two- and three-year terms at $300, $400 and $500. Every term then renews at $200 a year. The plan covers cellular data and GPS, the vital-sign monitoring, health alerts and unlimited chat and video with veterinarians, so the collar does nothing useful without one.

With the collar at $299, the three routes add up like this:

First planYear 1After 3 yearsAfter 5 years
1 year ($300)$599$999$1,399
2 years ($400)$699$899$1,299
3 years ($500)$799$799$1,199

Add $100 to every figure if the collar is back at its $399 list price. The renewal rate is the detail the monthly figures on PetPace’s store hide. The one-year plan works out at $25 a month and the three-year plan at $13.90, while every year after the first term costs $200, about $16.67 a month. So the first year of the one-year plan costs $100 more than a renewal year, and the three-year plan is the only term that costs less per month than a renewal.

Paying for the right to stop

If the collar does not suit your pet, the one-year plan lets you stop with $599 spent, against $799 on the three-year plan. That $200 difference buys the option to walk away, and it costs you $200 over three years if you keep the collar.

The FAQ on PetPace’s store gives a reason to plan the trial year carefully. Basic summaries of activity, sleep and location show up from the first day, but the AI analysis that produces the alerts “unlocks progressively over the first 12 weeks,” while it learns your pet’s resting pulse and normal sleep. Twelve weeks is almost a quarter of a one-year plan. A buyer who judges the collar in its first month is judging the part that works before the alerts do.

What the money buys that a GPS tracker does not

A location tracker like the Tractive DOG 6 also needs a subscription, but its plan pays for knowing where the dog is. PetPace’s plan pays for pulse, respiration, temperature and heart rate variability (HRV, the beat-to-beat variation in heart rhythm that the collar uses as a stress signal), a pain score, and a vet you can message at any hour. GPS and a Safe Zone are on the list too, so the collar can do a tracker’s job.

Your own veterinarian can see the data too, through a browser dashboard that PetPace says needs no extra equipment at the clinic, once you share access with one tap in the app. PetPace runs health programs for epilepsy, arthritis and heart conditions besides pregnancy, and for a dog with one of those, a vet who can read weeks of pulse and pain-score data between visits gets more from the renewal than any location feature.

The collar itself

The small collar, listed for small dogs and cats, measures 48 x 28 x 23 mm and weighs 60 g, while the medium and large weigh 90 g and 100 g.

The battery is a 520 mAh cell that cannot be replaced. PetPace rates it at up to three weeks per charge, and a full charge takes two hours, 80% in an hour and a half. The collar connects over LTE Cat-M1, a low-power version of LTE made for small connected devices, plus Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and it carries IP66 and IP68 ratings. The app runs on iPhone and Android, and the announcement adds Apple Watch support.

What the Chewy listing does not tell you

The October 6 announcement ties the vet access to a PetPace subscription and describes no separate plan for Chewy buyers. It does not say whether a collar bought at Chewy comes with any months of service, so compare Chewy’s price with $299 plus the plan you would buy from PetPace before you check out.
