The Life360 Pet GPS Goes Quiet Inside Every Saved Place
Your dog slips through the back gate while you are at work. With the Life360 Pet GPS in its default Standard Mode, the first thing you get is a notification that the dog has left your home Place, and live tracking starts from that moment. Inside a saved Place the tracker reports its position once a day, which is how Life360 gets two weeks out of a charge.
Tractive’s DOG 6 is the tracker to set it against, because it adds sleep and resting heart rate monitoring that Life360 does not offer. The modes, battery figures and alerts in this review come from Life360’s help center, updated in August and September 2026, and its October 2025 launch release. No independent test is cited.

Editorial ratingFairWeighted average of 4 rated sections.
Inside any saved Place the Pet GPS checks in only once a day, so it works as an escape alarm more than a live tracker. A household already sharing locations in Life360 gets the most from it, because the dog joins the same map and the same alerts.
Strengths
Alerts the whole family Circle the moment the dog leaves a Place
Lost Pet Alerts reach nearby Life360 members and, in the US, Petco Love Lost
Reserve Mode keeps a flat tracker findable over Bluetooth for months
Weaknesses
Inside any saved Place, Standard Mode updates the location once a day
Beast Mode, the only always-live setting, is a limited beta

Method
The sections on Places and battery rest on Life360's help-center articles about Pet GPS modes, battery life, Places and banner states, all updated between August and September 2026, and on Life360's October 22, 2025 launch release. Membership, country and tracker limits come from Life360's Pet GPS membership article, and the lost-pet tools from its Escaped Pet Mode and Pet Finder Network pages.
Evidence
Life360's help center for every mode and limit, and its launch release for the battery, Reserve Mode and IP68 figures.
Limitations
Nobody has published measurements of the tracker's location accuracy, its battery life or how long an escape alert takes to arrive. Beast Mode was a limited beta in October 2026, so its behavior may change.

Life360's help center calls it Power Saving Mode. In Standard Mode, whenever the Pet GPS is inside a Place, it drops live tracking and updates its location once every 24 hours, then reports as soon as it crosses the boundary. If a family member's phone is within Bluetooth range, the dog shows at that person's location.
The rule applies in every Place saved in your Circle, home and anywhere else. A dog that bolts toward a park or a relative's house you have saved as a Place goes back to daily check-ins once it is inside. In a Place, Ring and Light work only over Bluetooth, within 30 to 100 feet of a phone.
The escape alert is the Place's Leaves notification, which you switch on for the pet in each Place's settings. For a Pet GPS, a Place can be sized anywhere from 100 feet to 2 miles, and a larger Place means the dog is farther from home when that alert fires. Places also must not overlap, or the notifications become unreliable.
Beast Mode keeps the tracker online everywhere, Places included, but it is a beta open to a limited number of members and cuts the battery to four or five days. Switching modes needs a network connection, so flipping a lost dog's tracker to Beast Mode only takes effect when the tracker next connects.
When the dog is missing
7.6/10Good
Escaped Pet Mode starts from the pet's card in the app. It alerts everyone in your Circle and sets the tracker's LED blinking, so the dog is easier to spot at night. Outside Bluetooth range, anyone in the Circle can ring the tracker or turn on its light over cellular. A Stationary banner appears once the dog has stayed in one spot outside a Place for more than 15 minutes.
The Lost Pet Alert reaches nearby Life360 members through the Pet Finder Network, with the dog's photo and your phone number. You can send one every 72 hours, both sender and recipients must be 18 or older, and Life360 can decline an alert whose photo is blurry, dark or shows more than one animal. In the US, the same alert can be shared with Petco Love Lost, which matches photos across a network of more than 3,200 shelters and community members and receives your phone's or the tracker's exact location. Shelters in that network still scan for a microchip, which is the backup if the collar comes off.
Two weeks a charge, six months of Bluetooth
7.0/10Good
Life360 rates the battery at up to 14 days in Standard Mode and four to five days in Beast Mode, according to its model table. Time spent outside Places, Escaped Pet Mode, the LED, weak signal and extreme temperatures all shorten it. A dog that rarely leaves a saved Place is the case the two-week figure describes, because the tracker spends those hours checking in once a day.
A low-battery notification comes first, much earlier in Beast Mode. When the battery is nearly flat, the tracker enters Reserve Mode: it talks only over Bluetooth and reports a location when it passes a phone in the Find with Life360 network, for up to six months. Real-time location ends at that point.
Charging takes up to two hours, and Life360 asks owners not to leave it on the cable longer because that wears the battery.
No membership, no tracker
5.8/10Mediocre
A paid Life360 membership is required for GPS tracking, and the device does nothing without one. Buying it gives new and free members a year of Silver, which then renews every year unless canceled. Existing paid members are not charged for a second membership. Silver covers up to two trackers, Gold five and Platinum ten. The Silver bundle arrived in August 2026, and before it the tracker needed Gold or Platinum.
The tracker and the membership offer are sold only in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Wi-Fi for a Place must be a password-protected 2.4 GHz network, and Life360 warns that dual-band mesh setups, which Starlink and HughesNet often default to, may not connect. There is no sleep or heart-rate monitoring, and activity is limited to the timeline, a weekly roundup and a Zoomies alert for dogs.

Scores run from 1.0 to 10.0: 9+ exceptional, 8–8.9 excellent, 7–7.9 good, 6–6.9 fair, 5–5.9 mediocre, below 5 poor. The overall score is the weighted average of the rated sections. Unrated sections do not count.
Pros
Alerts the whole family Circle the moment the dog leaves a Place
Lost Pet Alerts reach nearby Life360 members and, in the US, Petco Love Lost
Reserve Mode keeps a flat tracker findable over Bluetooth for months
IP68 and 28 g
Cons
Inside any saved Place, Standard Mode updates the location once a day
Beast Mode, the only always-live setting, is a limited beta
Does nothing without a paid Life360 membership
No sleep or heart-rate monitoring
Sold in five countries only
Conclusion
The Life360 Pet GPS tells a whole family the moment a dog leaves a Place, then lets them search with the Circle and the wider Pet Finder Network. It does not watch the dog inside Places, and the always-live mode that would is still a limited beta.
Set the home Place to the 100-foot minimum and switch on its Leaves alert for the dog, so the alarm fires at the gate instead of down the street.
Andreea-Viviana Jitaru’s take
The once-a-day check-in inside Places is a sensible battery trade for a dog that lives in the house and the yard. For a dog with an escape habit, I'd want Beast Mode out of beta before trusting the map.
Best for
Life360 households
Dogs that spend most days at home and rarely roam
Families who want every member alerted the moment the dog gets out
Consider an alternative if
Your dog escapes often and you want live tracking inside your yard
You live outside the five countries where it is sold
Does the Life360 Pet GPS work without a membership?
A paid Life360 membership is required for GPS tracking, so the tracker does nothing without one. New and free members get a year of Silver with the purchase, and it renews every year after that.
Can I see my dog live while it is in my yard?
Not in Standard Mode if the yard is inside a saved Place. The tracker updates once a day there, unless a family phone is within Bluetooth range, in which case the dog shows at that phone's location. Beast Mode tracks inside Places but is a limited beta.
Where is it sold?
Life360 sells the Pet GPS in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Andreea edits the written side of the site: the editor's note on each product page, the category buying guides and the blog. Her brief is to say what a specification table cannot: where a product is good, where it quietly compromises, and who should walk past it. A note that reads like marketing copy, or that praises a product without naming a drawback, does not go live.
This is a research-based assessment: the reviewer compiled it from published specifications, documentation and independent measurements rather than from testing the unit.
