PETLIBRO Granary Smart Feeder: Specs, Price, Pros & Cons

The Granary is the plain one. PETLIBRO now sells a Granary with a camera, a Granary 2 and a Granary 2 X on pre-order, and this original Wi-Fi model has quietly become the value pick in its own family: the same 5 L sealed hopper and stainless bowl as its siblings, without a lens, a microphone for conversation or a higher price. If you have decided you do not need to watch your cat eat, that is the whole pitch.

What it does, it does thoroughly. The hopper is sealed at the lid, the tank and the dispensing rotor, with a desiccant bag holder under the lid, and PETLIBRO is unusually specific about what will and will not feed through it, giving a kibble size range and admitting the feeder is for small and medium pets. The app schedules meals, dispenses on demand, logs what went out, and will nag you about low food, a jam, a lost connection or a flat backup battery. A short voice recording can be played as a meal call, and there is a dual-bowl variant with a splitter for two cats that eat side by side.

The compromises are the usual ones for this type. It is strictly a dry-food machine, and PETLIBRO points wet-food buyers at the Polar. The alkaline backup batteries are an emergency measure, not a way to run it off-grid, and Wi-Fi is switched off when it is on them. The optional Petlibro Care subscription adds wellness tracking on top, but nothing about basic scheduling depends on it.

For a single cat or a small dog on kibble this is about as much feeder as most people need. Buyers who want two-way audio, a camera or pet recognition should look at the models above it and accept the cost.

33VS Score
How this VS Score was computed

Score 33: each known spec is measured against the median of all smart feeders (10 products), then weighted; 50 means level with that median. In classes of six or more, a value beyond the class’s 10th–90th percentile range counts as that limit, so one extreme product cannot set the scale. 30% of the scoreable weight could be used; unknown values, features not applicable to this class and proxies (battery capacity where a rated life exists) add or remove nothing.

Editor’s note

What I like about the Granary is how little it asks you to trust. PETLIBRO publishes the kibble diameter range it will handle, the number of portions a meal can hold and the fact that each portion is about 20 mL, which it translates as roughly a twelfth of a cup or ten grams. That last figure is the one to be careful with: a portion is a fixed volume, so the weight you dispense depends on how dense your food is. Weigh a few portions once, then set the schedule in portions rather than assuming ten grams each.

There is a small inconsistency on PETLIBRO's own page. The spec block allows up to ten meals a day, while one FAQ answer says six. I have gone with the spec block, and the gap only matters if you want more than six meals a day.

Running costs are modest but not zero. PETLIBRO recommends a fresh desiccant bag every two weeks to keep mold out of the hopper, and the three D-cell alkalines it wants as backup are not included. The backup itself is well thought out: the schedule keeps running through a power cut, but the app, meal call and buttons go dark, which is the right priority.

The meal call is a nicer feature than it sounds for a nervous or elderly cat, though ten short recordings is the limit and there is no live audio in either direction. If you want to talk to the cat, this is the wrong Granary.

Who regrets it? Owners of a large dog (PETLIBRO rules it out for anything beyond medium size) and multi-cat homes where the cats eat at different rates, because the dual-bowl splitter divides a single dispense and cannot tell one cat from another. For one kibble-eating cat, though, I would buy this over the camera models unless watching the bowl is something you would do.

The bottom line

The PETLIBRO Granary Smart Feeder earns a VS Score of 33 on the 30% of specifications we could compare like for like — an indication, not a ranking.

Who it’s for
Someone with one cat or a small dog on kibble who wants dependable scheduled meals, remote top-ups and alerts, and has no interest in watching the bowl on camera.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone feeding wet or raw food, households with a large dog, or two cats that eat at different rates. The splitter only divides one dispense, and it cannot tell the cats apart.
The trade-off that matters
The batteries are strictly an emergency plan: without mains power the Wi-Fi, app and meal call all go quiet and only the stored schedule keeps running.
The main alternative
PETLIBRO Granary 2: the same family's newer feeder, worth the step up if current-generation app features matter more to you than the lowest price.
